Notice: Board of Commissioners meeting Friday

The Brunswick County Board of Commissioners scheduled a meeting at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, August 29, 2014 in the Commissioners’ Chambers, David R. Sandifer Administration Building, Brunswick County Government Complex, Bolivia, N. C. The purpose of the meeting is to receive additional information on the proposed Schedule of Tax Values for the 2015 appraisal. The public is invited to attend and the meeting will be open for public comments.

Brunswick County is seeking general contractors for the rehabilitation of homes under the County’s FY13 URGENT REPAIR PROGRAM, funded in part by the North Carolina Housing Finance Agency and administered by the Brunswick County Planning and Community Development.  Both licensed and unlicensed contractors may submit bids.  Several bids require contractors to be certified Lead-Safety Renovation, Repair and Painting contractors.  Contracts will be awarded based on a competitive bidding process.

Every Friday, from 9 a.m. until noon, Master Gardener Volunteers will be at the Hickmans Crossroads Library, 1040 Calabash Road, Calabash. Master Gardeners will be available to help you with soil sampling and address various lawn and garden problems. Clients can call or visit during those hours.

Shingles: What you need to know

Shingles is a painful skin rash, often with blisters, that is caused by the same virus that causes chickenpox. It is far more common in people 50 years of age or older, though younger people have gotten it. A shingles vaccine is available for people who are 50 or older; Brunswick County Health Services has the shot available. read more...
