Sales Tax Referendum Documents

On Feb. 24, the Brunswick County Board of Commissioners voted to place an advisory referendum for a quarter-cent sales tax levy to help fund beach and school infrastructure projects on the primary ballot, on May 6.

Balloons released in honor of abused children

In honor of Child Abuse Prevention Awareness Month, the Community Child Protection Team hosted an awareness event Tuesday, with performances by local school groups and a balloon release in honor of abused children.

Brunswick County's Spring Free Dump Week will be April 14-19, and will culminate with a Household Hazardous Waste Collection and clothing drive to benefit the Salvation Army on Saturday, April 19, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Shallotte Middle School. Both events are free with proof of either property ownership or residency in Brunswick County. In honor of Child Abuse Prevention Awareness Month, the Community Child Protection Team is hosting a child abuse awareness event April 15 on the steps of the Brunswick County Courthouse.

Voter registration, party change deadline approaching

The deadline to register or change one’s party affiliation before the primary is next Friday, and with recent changes to election law, voters will no longer be able to register while voting early one-stop voting.

On March 9, 1764, the Governor of North Carolina signed the legislative act that created Brunswick County out of parts of New Hanover and Bladen counties, naming the new county after the Town of Brunswick, itself named in honor of King George I, the Duke of Brunswick and Lunenberg.
