Boil water notice lifted for Port Loop Road

A boil water notice for Port Loop Road, off Long Beach Road near the intersection with N.C. 211, has been lifted. Residents no longer need to boil water for consumption.

If it stings or bites, it probably makes its home in Brunswick County. From the biting flies that terrorized us earlier this summer, to the ever-pleasant mosquitoes and fire ants, there are a lot of critters out there that can make life outdoors unpleasant. In recent days, however, reports of a stinging caterpillar that bears an uncanny resemblance to a small toupee have been coming into the Extension Office. These hairy caterpillars look harmless, but those who have experienced its sting quickly realize it is anything but. Meet the pus caterpillar. read more...
Smithville Park Public Meeting Announcement

The next Public Meeting has been scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 25 at 6:00pm and will  be at the Brunswick Center at Southport (Stage Room) to discuss the Smithville Park Redesign.  This will be a structured meeting where Site Solutions will do a presentation starting at 6pm, show some design proposals, and get feedback from those in attendance.  If you have any questions about this meeting please call 910-253-2670.

Port Loop Road Water Outage

Residents along Port Loop Road off Long Beach Road near N.C. 211 will be without water late Monday night, and will need to boil water for at least 24 hours after water is back in service.

Bolivia Brief Farmers Market moves to once a month

Brunswick County’s Bolivia Brief Farmers Market will be held monthly for the remainder of the year, continuing to provide farmers and families the opportunity to connect with fresh, locally-grown foods for healthy meals.


Brunswick County has received funds from Duke Energy Progress, which are available to Brunswick County homeowners meeting certain criteria to help improve the home’s energy efficiency.


The County of Brunswick requests proposals from firms and businesses to provide processing and transportation services for carpet and padding collected and stockpiled at the site of the Brunswick County landfill facility in Bolivia, North Carolina.

In a climate suitable for three-season gardening, North Carolina is a great place for gardeners. For those who truly love gardening I guess you could say it's Utopia - well I shouldn't get carried away; this Utopia includes problems with soil, weather that can change from hour to hour, and insects like none I've seen before in gardening. Despite all this, the arrival of fall gives us a break from the headaches of summer and is a great time to reclaim your yard. 


As peak hurricane season nears, Brunswick County Emergency Management officials are reminding residents that now is the time to plan and prepare for emergencies and disasters.


Jacksonville, NC  - In order to improve safety on River Road SE in Brunswick County, NCDOT crews are widening River Road from Jabbertown Road to Old Baker Avenue to provide turn lanes onto Rob Gandy Boulevard, beginning Wednesday, September 2. Alternating lane closures will be in place on River Road SE from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, through September 19.

LELAND, N.C. – The Cape Fear Rural Planning Organization (RPO), which covers all of Columbus and portions of Brunswick and Pender Counties, is holding a rural transportation summit on Thursday, September 18. read more...
