The North Carolina General Assembly has established disposal bans on a wide range of items. The following items have been banned from landfill disposal:
Used oil
Yard trash (with exceptions)
White goods
Antifreeze
Aluminum cans
Whole scrap tires
Lead acid batteries
Oyster shells
Motor vehicle oil filters
(effective October 2009)
Recyclable rigid plastic containers
(with exceptions and effective October 2009)
Wooden pallets
(effective October 2009)
Discarded computer equipment and televisions
(effective January 2011)
